EDS congratulates Raewyn Peart, MNZM

Raewyn Peart, the Environmental Defence Society’s Policy Director, has been made  a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the New Year’s Honours list.

“This award recognises the significant contribution Raewyn Peart has made to the development of environmental policy in New Zealand,” said EDS CEO Gary Taylor.

“She has published extensively on topics as wideranging as marine planning, the need for an EPA, the evolution of the EEZ Act, coastal development, landscape management, aquaculture, fisheries management and resource reform.

“Her books include Castles in the Sand: What’s happening to the New Zealand coast? Dolphins of Aotearoa: Living with dolphins in New Zealand, The Story of the Hauraki Gulf, and Voices from the Sea: Managing New Zealand’s Fisheries.

“In all her prolific output of books and reports she has maintained very high standards of fairness, balance and intellectual rigor.

“All of her writing has been focused on contemporary issues with the intent of influencing the evolution of Government policy in a positive and practical way.

“Raewyn’s thought leadership on resource management challenges is exemplary. She will continue her work during 2019, which promises to be a very big year for the environment,” Mr Taylor concluded.
