What we do

EDS combines staunch advocacy with relationship-building to deliver lasting environmental protection. We use three approaches to achieve our goals.

Policy

Our policy team researches, develops and advocates for environmental solutions.

Litigation

Our litigation enforces and strengthens the law, giving the environment a voice.

Events

Our events bring people together to share knowledge and build momentum.

Ki uta ki tai - our environment is interconnected.

EDS works across all environmental domains. Here are some of our areas of work.

Climate

Climate is an existential threat that cannot be ignored.

Biodiversity

Over 4,000 indigenous species are threatened or at risk of extinction.

Oceans

Our oceans management system needs to be reformed to create a sustainable future for our marine environments.

Freshwater

Freshwater is in a parlous state and needs restoration.

Land

Our distinctive natural and cultural landscapes are an integral part of our individual and collective wellbeing.
