EDS hosted an online webinar on the Hauraki Gulf / Tīkapa Moana Marine Protection Bill. The webinar traversed the framework of the Bill, what it is seeking to achieve and ways it could be strengthened. It covered matters that EDS has included in its draft submission on the Bill, which we have released to help you prepare your own submission.

Also discussed in the webinar was Bottom Fishing Access Zones in the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park. The loss of biogenic habitats, as a result of damaging fishing methods, has had a profound impact on the ecological health and productivity of the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park and it’s time to let the Park heal and recover. EDS has released its draft submission on this consultation as well. We seek the total transition of bottom trawling and Danish seining out of the Gulf.
